Diagnostic Imaging

Radiography – Equipped with an x-ray machine that produces excellent quality radiography, which can be used to aid in diagnosis of lameness, various internal diseases such as pneumonia, as well as intra-operative x-rays. Follow-up radiographs can be taken and allow for immediate comparison of previous radiographs taken.

Aside from routine survey radiography, we also have the capabilities of performing contrast radiographic examinations, which are sometimes necessary for an accurate diagnosis. Examples include upper gastrointestinal studies, intravenous pyelography to evaluate the kidneys and lower urinary tract, myelography to diagnose intervertebral disc or spinal disease, fistulography to diagnose chronic draining wounds, and arthrography to evaluate joints.

Radiographs are used to aid in the diagnosis of elbow and hip dysplasia. All OFA radiographs are taken under general anesthesia for proper positioning, which is essential for evaluation of the hips.

Ultrasonography – Equipped with a digital ultrasound machine. This tool serves as a window to the interior of the body and provides 2-dimensional images of internal organs and structures. which aids in the diagnosis of abdominal disease (cancer, gastrointestinal disease, liver disease, kidney disease), thorasic disease (pulmonary abscesses, pneumonia, cardiac myopathies, valvular diseases), reproductive issues (breeding management, pregnancy diagnosis and monitoring) and musculoskeletal abnormalities (tendon, ligament, and joint injury).

Many diagnostic procedures can be performed more precisely and with increased safety with the use of ultrasound, including ultrasound-guided biopsies, fine needle aspirations and cystocentesis.

Endoscopy – Equipped with a Pentax video flexible endoscopy system. Endoscopy is a less invasive means to evaluate the gastrointestinal tract and lower respiratory tract for disease. We are able to perform upper respiratory tract ( pharynx, larynx, trachea, and mainstem bronchi) and gastrointestinal tract (esophagus, stomach, duodenum, rectum, and large colon) examinations.

Common conditions of the gastrointestinal that can be diagnosed with flexible endoscopy include: esophageal stricture, esophageal diverticulum, esophageal ulceration, pyloric outflow obstruction, inflammatory bowel or cancer, foreign bodies or obstructions. The endoscope can be used to retrieve foreign objects from the esophagus, stomach, and duodenum.

Video Digital Rhinoscope – A rigid video digital rhinoscope allows visualization of the nasal passages.

Video Digital Otoscope – A rigid video digital otoscope allows better visualizion in the ear canal and tympanic membrane (ear drum).
